What does RRP mean and can you cross out a recommended price?
RRP means Recommended Retail Price: a price recommended by a manufacturer or supplier. It is not automatically the price your store previously charged.
What do RRP and MSRP mean?
RRP means Recommended Retail Price. MSRP means Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price and is common in the United States. Both describe a recommended benchmark, not necessarily your own former selling price.
Identify the value clearly as a manufacturer or supplier recommendation and document its source.
RRP versus your previous selling price
“Manufacturer RRP €99 — our price €69” is different from “was €99, now €69”. The latter suggests that your own store previously charged €99.
Do not let one compare-at-price field silently mix supplier recommendations with historic store prices across product pages, collections, feeds and badges.
When does the 30-day rule matter?
For many announced price reductions in the EU, the relevant prior price is the lowest price applied during at least the preceding 30 days. A recommended price should not be presented in a way that consumers can easily mistake for that former store price.
Exceptions and national details may apply, so preserve price history and assess each campaign in context.
Clear and unclear examples
Clear: “Manufacturer RRP: €99 — our price: €69”, without implying that your store previously charged €99.
Higher risk: “Was €99, now €69” or “30% off” when €99 is only an unexplained recommended price.

Frequently asked questions about RRP
What does RRP mean?
RRP means Recommended Retail Price, a selling price recommended by a manufacturer or supplier.
Is RRP the same as a previous selling price?
No. RRP is a recommendation; a previous selling price is a price your own store actually applied.
Is MSRP the same as RRP?
They both describe a recommended selling price. MSRP is especially common in the United States.
Can I cross out an RRP?
It must remain clearly identifiable as a recommended price and should not misleadingly appear to be your own previous price.
Does the EU 30-day rule apply to RRP?
The prior-price rule matters for announced reductions. A separate RRP comparison should not be confused with your own prior-price reference.
