WooCommerce bookkeeping for Europe, without treating one country as the default
Merqivio Books combines double-entry bookkeeping, invoices, inventory, bank entries and European VAT logic inside WordPress. Interface language and fiscal establishment country are separate, so the same plugin can support cross-border shops.
Why this is different from a typical WooCommerce VAT plugin
Many WooCommerce tools solve one part: VAT numbers, OSS, invoicing or a connection to external accounting software. Merqivio Books is designed as an accounting core inside WordPress, with EU27 country profiles and separate handling for domestic VAT, EU B2B, acquisitions, imports, reverse charge and OSS.
One accounting core, 27 fiscal starting profiles
During setup you choose the company’s establishment country. That controls fiscal defaults and base currency; the interface language is selected separately in Merqivio Books. Auto can follow WordPress when preferred. A German company can therefore use an English interface without changing its fiscal profile.
VAT rates remain configurable because reduced rates and their application differ by country and product category. Country profiles are a starting point, not a substitute for professional tax advice.
More than VAT: actual bookkeeping
Merqivio Books includes a general ledger, double-entry journals, sales and purchase invoices, credit notes, contacts, inventory, cost of goods, bank transactions, payments, period closing and reports. It is therefore an administration tool rather than only a checkout tax calculator.
Existing entries are protected during updates and technical posting values remain independent of display language.
EU B2B, reverse charge and intra-EU transactions
Separate posting codes are available for EU B2B supplies/services, intra-EU acquisitions, imports and reverse-charge situations. These transactions can therefore be tracked separately in the accounts and VAT overviews.
The plugin does not independently decide whether a transaction legally satisfies every condition for exemption or reverse charge. Correct customer and transaction data remains the merchant’s responsibility.
OSS for European B2C distance sales
For shops using OSS, Merqivio can post B2C distance-sale VAT separately by destination country and applied rate. The OSS overview remains separate from the domestic VAT report.
Merqivio deliberately does not decide whether the EU threshold, an exception or voluntary OSS registration applies to a specific business.
Extra VAT-return preparation for the Netherlands
Dutch businesses keep preparation using VAT-return boxes 1a through 5c. For other EU countries, Merqivio provides bookkeeping and VAT summaries for preparation but does not imitate an official national tax-return form.
That distinction is deliberate because national filing formats, exceptions and administrative rules differ and can change.
Six languages without confusing language and country
The admin interface supports Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Choose it directly in Merqivio Books or use Auto to follow WordPress. English, for example, is not a fiscal country: Irish, Dutch and German businesses may all choose an English interface.
Separating language, company country and tax settings is one of Merqivio Books’ core design choices.
How Merqivio Books works
From installation to reporting in one clear administration.
1. Install the plugin
Download Merqivio Books after purchase and install the ZIP via WordPress > Plugins > Add New Plugin.
2. Activate your licence
Enter the personal MQB licence key from the Merqivio email. On first activation it is bound to one main domain.
3. Choose business country and interface language
Set the fiscal establishment country for the EU27 profile and base currency. Then choose the Merqivio Books interface language separately: Auto/WordPress, Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish or Italian.
4. Check VAT and OSS
Verify the VAT rates for your goods/services and enable OSS only when you use that scheme.
5. Record sales, purchases and inventory
Create sales, purchase and credit invoices, manage contacts and inventory and let Merqivio process the double-entry postings.
6. Process bank entries and corrections
Add bank transactions or import CSV, match payments to invoices and correct errors with the accounting-safe edit/reversal logic.
7. Review and report
Use VAT/OSS summaries, trial balance, profit & loss, journal and audit log and close reviewed periods.
Merqivio Books supports bookkeeping and VAT preparation. Outside the Netherlands the VAT overview is not an official national filing form and the plugin does not replace an accountant or tax adviser.
Why this matters for WooCommerce businesses
- No separate accounting SaaS is required to use the Merqivio administration.
- EU27 is the starting point instead of one national VAT model.
- OSS and domestic VAT are reported separately.
- Bookkeeping, invoices, inventory and bank entries in one WordPress environment.
- Multilingual interface and one-domain licence for €9.95/month or €99.50/year.
What Merqivio Books deliberately does not promise
Merqivio Books supports bookkeeping and VAT preparation, but it does not replace an accountant or tax adviser and, outside the Netherlands, is not an official electronic tax filing system. Product classification, exceptions and tax applicability remain the business’s responsibility.
